PARIO adopts the same sample prep many labs already use. It reduces errors by replacing and automating the lengthy hydrometer portion of the process using the new, more accurate “Extended Integral Suspension Pressure Method” (ISP+). This method does not require the insertion of a hydrometer or sampling of suspension volume with a pipette, which disturbs the sedimentation process. Being automatic, it also avoids manual reading or calculation errors. This results in an overall error rate of an incredible 0.5%—lower than any conventional particle size analysis method.
The end result: you get accurate, detailed measurements that can be verified by following a procedure you can replicate.
The PARIO measuring method is based on Stokes’ law. That means there is no need for soil-specific corrections with transfer functions as required for almost any other automated measurement method, such as laser diffraction or image analysis.
METER scientists are experts in soil analysis, and that expertise is enhanced by an instrument like PARIO. Because our methods are automated, we are able to analyze more samples for more customers with fewer scientists in the lab and less error due to sample handling. And, because we base our methods on current scientific knowledge of soil physics, our analyses produce robust, research-grade data. Partnering with us means you spend less time collecting samples, less time waiting for results, and less of your budget on tedious lab work and error-prone manual measurements.
Our lab services are performed in both the United States and Germany. As part of the initial consultation for service, we will help determine which office is the most appropriate for your project needs according to your location and any protocol or reporting standards that must be met.
For samples collected in the United States, we recommend reviewing the USDA Domestic Soil Quarantine Map.
